Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.1/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.7.

Obviously influenced by the Stone Roses. A nice album. 9/10!

No fillers on this hammond organ driven debut album with standout tracks being "Sproston Green", "The Only One I Know", "Flower", "Opportunity" and "Then".

Love The Charlatans (or for us in the US The Charlatans UK) This was my introduction to the band. They released several great albums after this.

Riding on the coattails of The Stone Roses, The Charlatans display enough charm to prevent them from being also-rans.

Heavily influenced by The Stone Roses, Some Friendly also added The Prisoners, Julian Cope, and Echo & the Bunnymen to the mix creating a vibrant and sussed encapulsation of Madchester before it died.

I dug this album out of the mothballs a few weeks ago - hadn't listened to it in ages! I have been listening to it fairly non-stop since, and am amazed at how good it still sounds. 'Polar Bear' is my favourite track, but the rest are pretty good too!

White Shirt and Only One I Know are great. Rest of the songs are pretty good too. Simple music that is easy to enjoy.
