Did not like this at all. Massive disappointment. To the bottom of the pile never to see the light of day again
A refreshing dive into 80s synthpop after the laid-back "Seventh Tree". It may seem slightly facile, but damn it's so catchy and groovy. "Head First" is a very likeable record that never once drags.

Unshamefully poppy and synthy. I LOVE it. When they go for a sound, they really GO for it.
After the lush "Seventh Tree", Goldfrapp make a welcome return to synthpop, albeit taking cues from the cheesy 80s. Although that may sound like a recipe for disaster, they execute it perfectly and it certainly didn't deserve the lukewarm reception it received. "Head First" is a short and sweet 38 minute record and every track has something going for it. Even if it's not one of their strongest works, the iconic duo still remained a cut above their pop peers by crafting such a catchy, consistent and overall impressive album.
