Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.0/100, a mean average of 76.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

"Lovely head" was excellent, the rest didn't grab me the same way.
Gorgeous. I'm sure this will be even better with multiple listens and believe me, I will listen to this again. A lot, probably.
Trip hop's secret voice finally comes with her own project. It is what you would expect. Her prodcer renders a fitting unsettling background to her vocals, but her vocals and songwriting are ultimately what makes the album.
I own four Goldfrapp albums and would agree this one is the right one to be in first position, at the time of this review anyway. That said, they are all good. I like the style, the beautiful yet subtle keyboard arrangements and haunting vocals. The vocals on the first track remind me of some of the work Shirley Bassey did with Yellow.

This was a good record. A lot of qualities from this record I do like. From the seductive vocals to the surreal vibes. As well as the chilled trip hop and down tempo moments. But there are some songs that prevent me from giving it the highest praise. Still a good record for 2000 and the decade in general.
Abstract, different, beautiful - everything I hope to find from music. This album takes me to somewhere else. One of my favourite albums of all time.
Pilots is one of the most beautiful songs ever. Even without the lyrics, the singing and the music makes it that great already.
One of the most stunningly beautiful debut albums ever. It's a Brilliant LP, obviously heavily influenced by John Barry, Sergio Leone, and, Shirley Bassey, is effortlessly fuses different styles and sounds to form something utterly original. Some great tracks in, utopia, human, and, deer stop. It's one of the best records of the 2000's.
Unusual album cover, unusual album....lovely vocals but the music is almost soundtrack/theme tune/incidental...bought this after Black Cherry which was my introduction to Goldfrapp, glad I own it but only Utopia really hints at what is to come...
