Didn't expect too much, and I got what I expected.
"Silver Eye" is a great throwback to the squelchy electroclash sounds of "Black Cherry", the first two tracks are really good electropop songs, and then the record takes a more ambient approach for the remainder with electronic undercurrents. It's a nice record that feels slightly familiar, and yet also feels like a good summation of their career so far.
A gorgeous return to synthpop from the ever-changing Goldfrapp. Throughout, the album is brooding, dark and sexy whilst completely danceable and it is a testament to the sleek production on offer combined with Alison's sublime, haunting vocals. Even if it all manages to be a tad bit underwhelming, it's still one of the best records of the year so far.
