Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. @ffudnebbuh First of all, if you haven't heard the albums, you shouldn't have rated them with 25/100. Second, if you're interested in music, the fact that they appear so high in ratings (as you, yourself claim) should maybe move you towards giving it a shot and hearing those albums?

I haven't heard the aha albums, but I was, to say the least, surprised to see that they were some of the top rated albums on this site...they can't be that good, right?
They are only known as a "one-hit wonder" here in the USA, but everywhere else in the world they are huge. One of the best bands Americans don't know! (Edited)

A-ha are the dictionary definition of pop-fluff; still aiming for mass market appeal, but standing far above the made-for-the-charts commercialised rubbish that is more common.
A number of stellar pop hits, generally good albums and a certain style that really adds some brilliant uniqueness to this quintessential synth-pop and new wave band.
Absolutely one of the most memorable acts of the 80s and one who's music still holds up without a hitch today. (Edited)
