Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 4% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 79.3/100, a mean average of 80.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.0/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 11.9.

They called him "the Genius", and with good reason. Yeah, I get it, this is an album site, and that's why most artists from the pre-album era don't get their fair due. Ray is maybe the greatest of them all. Killer singer, brilliant songwriter, tremendous pianist, fantastic improviser, all while being innovative, provocative and influential as hell. The guy could do it all. I can't endorse a "best artists" list that doesn't include him at least in the top 25.
Dude can sing and play like nobodies business. He's got a soul, jazz, rock n' roll, gospel... well damn... he's got it all going on. Fantastic musician and songwriter. You might even venture and say he's the backbone of American Music, bridging the old world with the new.
Extrem;y gifted musician
You somehow get the impression from his work that Ray Charles was more of a scoundrel than Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, or Marvin Gaye. He sings about hard luck and women from an honest perspective. He got a little slick in his later years, but his early work is gritty and soulful.
