My Dad's Favorite Albums by Applerill

I love my dad. When he was in college, he worked at one of the objectively best record stores in the country, The Nice Price, in North Carolina. Because of this prestigious position he had at such a young age, he had access to all the objectively biggest classics of the period, from Kenny Rogers' The Gambler to Bonk by Big Pig. And he once he got his Harvard MBA, he figured out how you measure music.

Every weekend, we have meat loaf for dinner. As Channing Tatum would say in my mom's favorite movie Dear John, "Of course we're having meat loaf; it's Saturday".

But really, to my dad, this album was the epitome of cool. You should give a hug to every kid these days that likes it, too.

My dad loved how Johnny Ramone voted for Ronald Reagan, and loved making money, just like my dad.

Also, whenever I got in trouble in school, he would get out his belt and sing, "BEAT ON THE BRAT! BEAT ON THE BRAT! BEAT ON THE BAT WITH A BASEBALL BAT!!!"

My dad used to always say, "If it ain't white, it ain't right". That's why he believes that Ozzy Osbourne is the best thing to happen to black music. I try to tell him that it's Thom Yorke, but he doesn't understand. [First added to this chart: 06/12/2013]

So by now you're probably wondering what my dad's "objective" way of looking at music is like. Well, here's how he described it to me a few years ago:

"You see, Charlie, it's all based on who listens to it. Classical music is listened to by all the rich, educated Asians and whites, so that's a great kind of music. But (c)rap music is listened to by a bunch of [censored] on welfare!"

Meat Loaf made his debut here, and it features all the dirty S&M my dad loves. Man, it must've been good to be a socially-awkward boomer in the late seventies. [First added to this chart: 06/12/2013]

This imaginary caricature of a boomer dad makes for an entertaining read. Was Ron Burgundy his favorite newscaster?
