Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 69.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 18.6.

This list is certainly rather better than some for the 1990s, but it suffer from the same fundamental problems found in virtually all magazine lists.
These problems are no doubt unconscious to the writers who vote for the albums, but they make them difficult to trust. Short-term focus and an emphasis on albums that were popular but neither special or easy to listen to repeatedly is the key issue, and the second issue is ignorance of music that may not fit in with the worldview of these professional critics.
Like ‘Rolling Stone’’s list form the 1990s, there is no metal, industrial, or post-rock in this list, and far too much “indie rock” that ranges from godawful to merely boring.
Great list! I love it.
Pésima lista.
This is certainly a rather better list than ‘Rolling Stone’ compiled, with a few more notable albums.
Still, it is hard to rate highly when it ignores metal so completely – maybe my reading of “janitor-x” a decade ago makes me expect magazines to acknowledge what they simply do not – and puts a vastly overrated artist like Beck upfront.
Reads predictable and unexplored, though there are some greats in here.

Well, it's.... certainly there.
