Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by blueandthemoon

First of all, I appreciate any feedback about my chart, but I would like to explain one thing. I realize most of my 100 greatest albums are from the 00s and 90s, and that was intentional. Those are the albums that are most important to me. However, if you look, I have created charts for every decade, 1950s-2010s, so my taste is by no means limited. But if I'm honest about my own favorite albums, the chronological composition of the chart will stay pretty similar. But again, I appreciate the feedback and realize some people have have different opinions about this.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.7/100, a mean average of 87.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.4.

I love a chart that has a mix of great albums I'm familiar with alongside dozens of albums I haven't had the pleasure of listening to yet. Rx Bandits and the Sea and Cake were some great first listens, I'm excited to check out more.

Great Chart even though it is mostly albums recorded in the last 23 years but there is still variety there. Well Done.

"Illinois" es uno de los 8 álbumes que tenemos en común y es genial verlo como el número 1 en este gráfico. Hubiera sido aún mejor si añadieras comentarios en los álbumes que seleccionaste para entender de mejor forma las razones por las que los agregaste, de cualquier forma, buen trabajo.

English review
"Illinois" is one of the 8 albums we have in common and it's great to see it as number 1 on this chart. It would have been even better if you added comments on the albums you selected to better understand the reasons why you added them anyway, good work.

Although we only have 10 albums in common, I found myself resonating with a lot of your picks. I am a big fan of Sufjan Stevens, so it's good to see so many of his albums so high (albeit in a slightly differing order to myself). Also, really like seeing Modest Mouse and Elliott Smith so high. Great list.

We are polar opposites in some ways ~ you favour the 90's/00's & I favour the 70's....that, I guess, is a quirk of the year we arrived on Planet Earth and how the music of our teens - 20's impacted upon us in such a profound way. We are similar in other ways ~ where the songwriter and the lyricists capture our senses. We only have 4 albums in common but soon, when I add Elliott Smith to my chart - we will have 5 in common. I love the diversity of this site and I totally respect your chart. BTW ~ nice to see one Aussie artist (John Butler) hit the top 100 ~ I can assure you that there are plenty more Aussie songwriters worthy of a listen.

A good, fairly diverse chart. Like you say - very 90s/00s focussed - would be good to see some more early classics in there. Quite a few in common with my 100. Stoked to see John Butler Trio included - great album and great Aussie band!

This chart is pretty good. Maybe one day it will make you famous. Seems like a long shot I know, but we can't say for sure. Only thing is, you put in 6 Elliott Smith albums which is great, but you left out my favorite, "From a Basement on the Hill". What gives, man? Please notify me when/if you become famous.
