Somewhere between metal and grunge, layne staley and jerry cantrell have co-headed an awesomely savage, brooding and introspective band [First added to this chart: 10/30/2020]

The only artist to chart based on one album, the Gin Blossoms had something special on "New Miserable Experience" that i wish they flushed out on subsequent albums. They take the hook sensibilities of Big Star and just follow it to a logical and highly catchy extreme. And there are a couple songs off of "Congratulations, I'm Sorry" that i dig too.. Chuck D and Flavor Flav plus a handful of cool DJs brought mad skills and a pertinent message to boot. Their work between "Nation of Millions" and "Fear of a Black Planet" was the MLK to NWA's Malcolm X. They brought a powerful message and followed it up with great rapping and beat skills. I was big into techno coming out of college. "Play" was huge in its day and he had a couple of other pretty good releases too. [First added to this chart: 04/25/2018]

One of my first cassettes, "go on" would've been more special if it wasn't so wired into a northern african "setting". There are some good ideas here, although the best, "something real", was an outtake from "welcome to the real world". This is solid 80s pop from a guy who at one point could've been the lead singer/songwriter of chicago or toto. [First added to this chart: 04/23/2014]

The Bee Gees deserve to be on a list of my favorites for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack alone. Disco or not, they could sure write some catchy pop songs. [First added to this chart: 10/11/2017]

I'm reserving a seat for Cloud Nothings on my "all time fav artist" list based upon Attack On Memory and their current album, Here and Nowhere Else. They've brought the grunge sound of nirvana forward to the 2010's and drive the hooks through instead of breathing at the chorus. [First added to this chart: 10/11/2017]

The godfather of alt-country? Maybe. What isn't uncertain is how much his earthy folk rock charm comes off as earnest and relatable. [First added to this chart: 04/28/2014]
