The album where The Beatles became musical deities transcending everything that came before this moment. With much assistance, of course, from Mr. Martin, this collection is ground zero for British pop music. Faultless compositions from Lennon and McCartney and the emergence of George as a songwriter. Fucking spectacular.

Van the man has made other albums which have received greater recognition but this is the work which really hits the sweet spot with performances which are so sublime, only silent contemplation (is that a tautology?) seems the most appropriate response. Streets of Arklow and Linden Arden Stole the Highlights are case in point. An overlooked gem, only by those who have foolishly overlooked.

Simply stunningly beautiful melodies and an aural backdrop which is unsurpassed in this genre. Wayne Coynes vocals have never returned to these heights again.

As close as the stones came to perfection. This set sums up the band perfectly as they were at the time. The attitude, danger and taboo is palpable throughout each track across the entire album.

The high water mark for music made by Atlantans. (I know its a big call) Uber cool retro sound with a lead singers swagger which remains a hallmark of the listening experience. Sister Luck and Seeing Things are unheralded jewels.
