Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Just been surfing the site and not sure how I got here but, wow. A short and sweet chart; from the records I am familiar with (I've reviewed 7 out of the 20 in your chart) I trust that the others are worth checking out. Would love to see some notes on the records for a perfect score from me!!
ps. I'm interested to know why you've put that version of Music For 18 Musicians over the original (which is no.2 in my own chart), I've never listened to that recording - is it in your opinion better than the 1978 version?

We'll ain't this chart a treat. There's maybe 20 albums I'm not familiar with and 1 in Merriweather PP that I just don't get but that leaves around 79 albums that I'd quite happily be stuck on a desert island with. Really should find room for cLOUDDEAD on my chart.

The albums we have in common are just... INCREDIBLE albums... I'm looking for more that have that same sound Ágætis Byrjun, Ladies And Gentlemen..., and (parts of) The Soft Bulletin all seem to share, can you recommend a few to me? Thank you!
