Probably my favourite band of the 2000s. The run of Sung Tongs - Feels - Strawberry Jam - Merriweather Post Pavilion is just unbelievable.
I've loved these guys for so long, but I can't deny that I've been a little disappointed with their output post- the Fall Be Kind ep. I was hoping Centipede Hz was just a misstep, but I guess they're sticking with the MAXIMAL WOOGLY-GOOGLY SOUNDS AT ALL TIMES vibe. And I say this as someone who digs the maximal woogly-googly aesthetic as a rule! I just miss the days when AC could get hushed and intimate. They sound like they make music strictly for the outdoor festival circuit, and more power to them; their songs, however, are no longer aimed directly at my heart.
The other side of this, though, is that as AC goes "off the rails (for me, at least), their solo work just gets better and better. Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks and Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper were leagues beyong Centipede Hz and Painting With.
so under appreciated. Completely unique and original and creative and yet modern!! a classic band that deserve all manner of praise; a sound like nothing else and yet one that never seems to sacrifice feel - brilliant

I went a whole year thinking I hated this band because I didn't like Merriweather Post Pavilion only to be blown away by Spirit They're Gone Spirit They've Vanished, Feels, and Strawberry Jam. If you like Merriweather Post Pavilion, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you don't like it, try their other albums and don't dismiss the whole band as I did.

One of the few modern psych bands that always sound completely fresh and innovative without having to borrow sounds from the 60's/70's/80's.
