Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.7/100, a mean average of 79.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.5.

A unique and interesting experience that is clearly influenced by a lot of people and it is fun trying to spot all of them in the music. This does lead to some great tracks as well with the personal highlight for me being Good Girl/Carrots. This song just seems to intrigue me and I enjoy revisiting this album to experience this track all over again. However, I do think the music can be a little slow at times and some moments aren't that captivating which leads to your attention leaving the record. Despite this, it does provide a dreamy atmosphere that, when it is successful, will transport you into a state of bliss which is really impressive. Overall, a slower few moments lets down a great album that is very experimental and special.
Hipnótico!
Starts off pretty weak with the first two tracks, but this album really hits its stride with Bros and it carries through to the end, even if Search For Delicious is just a glorified interlude.
Psychedelic harmonies looping through my head making colours from sound... If the Beach Boys were still active today they would be trying to emulate this. It's at times sparse and dreamy and at other times jaunty and rhythmic. The percussive beats and electronic accompaniments envelope the harmonies perfectly making this album a contemporary classic.
Pretty different to most things I listen to but emerged from the record very happy with what I had heard. Whilst not overly memorable, I definitely do not regret taking the time to listen to it. Kind of just passes over you like a tidal wave of happiness. Not complaining, I guess.

When I realized you could put together an album this great with a couple of loops and some Beach Boys vocals, it was a revelation. I feel the Bear has gotten stuck in a bit of a rut, though. Much of what he does just sounds the same these days.
What a great opening... but the rest loses itself in this indie lo-fi that doesn't stand the test of time, in my opinion.
