Top 50 Greatest Music Albums
by Rockmyfriends Unknown

This is a list of some of my albums of all-time. Most are in the hard rock vein but I tried to throw in a variety of albums. Hard rock, classic rock, and metal are my favorite genres but I enjoy a variety of music.

This was the original Alice Cooper band's first big hit. While some would argue that Killer and Billion Dollar Babies were harder rocking, this is my favorite of the early Alice albums. [First added to this chart: 01/22/2011]

When John Prine first appeared on the scene, he was labled the next Dylan. While Prine was never able to develop as a huge of a following, the description is pretty accurate, Prine is one of the greatest lyricist of all-time. This may be his most complete album. It is a shame some people can't see past Uncle Ted's controversial political views or views on hunting. The guy is a guitar legend and his first three solo albums are essential material with Cat Scratch Fever being one of the greatest releases ever. [First added to this chart: 01/22/2011]

While the Scorpions were much more commercial successful in the 80's after toning down their sound, I prefer their mid to late 70's better. There is not a bad song on this masterpiece. [First added to this chart: 01/22/2011]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 83.9/100, a mean average of 78.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 20.1.

A bit too much hair metal for my taste. But I do dig Phenomenon, Sabotage, and Lovedrive.

Great chart you have here man. I love all the heavy metal stuff on here but also glad to see a softer side with bands like Fleetwood Mac.

Definitely one of the best charts I've seen on the site. A great mix of glam/hair metal, hard rock, and heavy metal. And for the record even though another user already said it, but hair/glam metal is fantastic. It shouldn'y matter how the guys look, what truely does matter is the fact that they're playing great music.

I love hair bands. People can say what they want but it was good fun time rock n roll and I also love hard rock and metal. Whether people want to acknowledge it or not, hard rock and metal has withstood the test of time better than a lot of other forms of rock that disappear quickly.

Thanks for the comments it is appreciated. I personally like shock rock music stuff like W.A.S.P., Motley Crue, etc. It is all subjective. For instance one of the people said they liked Iron Maiden, while a lot of Maiden stuff is cheesy as well but it still rocks and you can even argue Sabbath to a degree has a cheese element, but it is all good, fun stuff.

I have to say that I really appreciate Sabotage, Piece of Mind, and Operation Mindcrime on your chart. However, most everything else is cheesy shock-rock garbage. Sorry, but it's true.
