Disclaimer: as this album's ranking insinuates, I utterly adore Music For A New Society and have nothing but respect for John Cale as an artist and a human being. If anything, the below is a homage to the strength of Cale's music, because they say that the strongest music can put the most vivid images in your mind ("they" mostly being me). And By God, are the images vivid here.
John had finally had enough. He'd just finished "Damn Life", his fingers sore, almost bleeding, from the intensity with which he pounded the piano as if butchering an already lifeless boar. Enough! He stood up, took a firm sip of Glenfiddich and threw his glass on the floor as it shattered into a hundred fine pieces on the silk marble floor. Enough! He took the harpsichord he had purchased at Sotheby's and smashed it against the wall. Repeatedly. They say Handel himself composed the Brockes Passion on it, but now it was fugueing no more.
John hadn't shaved in a while - weeks, perhaps - and he was wearing nothing but a bathrobe. It was all he had been wearing since she packed her things and left, coincidentally the last time he remembered seeing sunlight as her shadow disappeared into the horizon.
Enough! He turned on the amp to play Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 1 at full blast while loudly bellowing The Iliad at the top of his voice, the neighbours banging against the wall and shouting, almost pleading with John to be "QUIET! MAKE IT STOP! STOP THIS AWFUL RACKET!!" As John slowly stumbled into the bathroom, he fell over and mumbled something in Welsh into the bathtub as he slipped in and out of consciousness...

West Berlin-based post-punk band with a debut that ranks as one of my favourite forgotten, underrated albums.
