Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 5% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a mean average rating of 77.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 78.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 20.5.

I try to separate the man from the music because of the terrible rumors out there and strange behavior we witnessed. His music made pop music what it is today. It’s not my type of music but can’t deny his greatness and there are several tracks I still enjoy. As for the classic debate MJ vs Prince I take Prince by a landslide.

genius of music ... their lyrics have become troublesome for the capitalists of America so they "killed" their image as they did others ... will always have its place in the greatest of music ... will never be forgotten

Greatest artist off all time! All his albums, since the Off the Wall (1979) to the HIStory (1995) are great. Leaded the 80s as the top artist, with awesome pop, rock, r&b songs. In the 90s, his way of putting together different musical genders in his songs (like The Don't Care About Us [rap-rock, axé]) were astonishing, and he had the best new jack swing sound of that decade, always revolutionizing. His last album (Invincible) wasn't as great as the other ones but was quite good, having a lot of good records.

The guy saying he didn't have a great voice is clueless. I'm not his biggest fan but man he had some pipes.

He didn't exactly have an amazing voice. Let's face it, it wasn't a voice anywhere near the league of Mike Patton or Freddie Mercury. His music was superficial throwaway pop, which hasn't aged that well - some of it, terribly in fact. His performances were self-indulgent and bloated... but he could dance. Although, it takes more than being able to dance to impress me (and even his dancing was repetitive). Overrated? Absolutely. Jackson's music is a one size fits all type of music - for people who aren't really into music.
