Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.8/100, a mean average of 85.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.1.

Certainly a unique chart. Liked the backstory in a few of the comments.
I might need to check out Guided By Voices & see/hear what I'm missing :).

This has got to be one of the most unique top 10's I've ever seen. Only 2/10 I've listened to or even heard of (though I've heard of most of the musicians). As I get deeper into the chart, there's more familiar albums and more in common, though still lots of surprises (Einstein on the Beach is phenomenal as is that Bird compilation). There's more Guided By Voices albums than I even realized existed (I mean...13% of the chart is Robert Pollard, not necessarily a bad thing though). Makes me wonder if you listened to his "Relaxation of the Asshole" spoken word album, the one that Pitchfork jokingly gave a 10/10.

Anyway, there are some genres which clearly you like best (lo-fi DIY indie stuff) but with some twists and turns and wonderful surprises laced throughout. Overall wonderful chart.

Replacements and The Feelies. Good to see them here in your chart. Anyway, it's a refreshing list of albums. A few to think about, I guess

I appreciate your love for REM. Also Bjork and that wonderful Sugarcubes album! You seem to really like Guided by Voices and yet I've never listened to them. Had to check out your list because you bashed that Grimes album Visions which I'm enjoying for the first time through. Becoming one of my favorites of 2012, we can't all like the same thing, that's the beauty of music. You actually have quite a unique list which I dig.

Nice stuff, and your reviews do what reviews are supposed to do in that they make me want to go and listen to the albums. Seeing as you seem to be a bit of a GBV expert, where should I start with them? I've heard of them and they sound cool, but I've never gotten around to listening to them

cool stuff, would love to see more writeups like your number one, kinda heavy on guided by voices but that's fair enough. Also love your your #17
