Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

There's a lot I like here without being too much I love. I personally think your 41-50 is better than your 1-10 but it's all pretty good. Still haven't listened to The Smile Sessions even though I much prefer Smiley Smile to the sanitized version of Smile Brian released a few years back, will put that on my to do list.

This is really nice but it's a little too focused on the 60s/70s for my tastes. There's a lot of good albums, but nothing recent, you only have 2 albums past the 90s, and one of them is the Smile Sessions, which was recorded 40 years ago. There's some good stuff here though, so good job.

Pretty good list but, IMO, limiting yourself to 1 album per artist doesn't necessarily make for a better chart. The Beatles, Radiohead, Nirvana, David Bowie and other artists are probably deserving of more than one album on a Top 50 albums list. But hey, its your list and its still solid (although a little 90s heavy and not enough albums from the 2000s).
