Top 100 Music Albums of 2016

2016 snapshot
Every album I listen to will be included on here, even if I hated it. You may also notice some higher rated albums in the comments, while some albums I hated are still featured in the chart. This is because I create my yearly charts as "snapshots" of the music scene from that year. From these I create my decade charts, where you will find no filler. Basically anything rated 60% or higher I recommend depending on your tastes.

East coast, boom bap, abstract hip-hop
HBO is Mach-Hommy's second project under Griselda Records (the other being 'Don't Get Scared Now'), and his only solo album released with the label. Mach-Hommy had quietly been arguably the most talented member on Griselda Records while he was apart of it. However, up until this release we were lucky to even get a feature from him. HBO is the next "big" Griselda release after Westside Gunn's 'FLYGOD' album earlier in the year. Similar to 'FLYGOD', Mach-Hommy has a larger list of producers for this project, totaling six. However, out of the 18 tracks, August Fanon (A fresh name producing for Griselda at this time) produces 11 of them. Mach-Hommy is the most out-of-place rapper with Griselda as he doesn't rap about gangsta stories and his Boom Bap beats aren't always grimy and dark. He is taking the Griselda sound in a much more abstract and "artsy" lane with this release. Lyrically, Mach-Hommy's pen is up there with the best in the game and he displays his talent on this project. His lyrics cannot be found anywhere online and he will have them removed if they're posted anywhere, so you will have to listen for yourself to decipher them. Overall this is the best Griselda release to date and one of the best albums of 2016. A must listen.
Mach-Hommy's artistic direction ultimately led to his departure from Griselda Records shortly after this project. From what I understand him and Westside Gunn had differing opinions artistically and it led to some sort of beef between the two. This was recently assumed to be squashed and at the time of writing this its been rumored WSG and Mach have been making music together.
