Top 43 Music Albums of 1997
by mrmcrook

All compilations, greatest hits, anthology's etc listed after studio albums. For a year list, it's only fair. And it seems that an awful lot of these were released this year that I acquired.

My top 10 favorite songs of 1997
1. Headless Chickens - George
2. Nick Cave - There is a Kingdom
3. Radiohead - The Tourist
4. Headless Chickens - Dark Angel
5. Nick Cave - Idiot Prayer
6. Faith No More - Stripsearch
7. Supergrass - Sun Hits the Sky
8. The Prodigy - Firestarter
9. Rammstein - Engel
10. Radiohead - Paranoid Android

87.50 This has a fantastic flow. A great balance of the rock element with melody and heavier textures on the slower tunes. A brilliant album right the way through with no weak tracks. Mike Patton is king vocalist. Very pleasantly surprised with this. One I resonated with immediately and always seems to have a calming affect on me. Love it. [First added to this chart: 11/11/2021]

86.81 I've always loved this album due to it's uniqueness when it was first released. Upon pulling it out recently and revisiting it a few times I've found it seems to of not held that same magic. Don't get me wrong, still a brilliant album full of top caliber songs. Just not standing the test of time with me unlike some earlier era bands (Beatles, Floyd etc) [First added to this chart: 11/03/2020]

85.00 A much darker turn compared to 'Body Blow'. Not that that's bad at all. The whole album has a darkness you just seem to get lost in. The timbre of the vocals encapsulates it perfectly. Fantastic album. [First added to this chart: 11/03/2020]

84.58 More piano and ballad based than a lot of his other albums. But I've never heard a Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds album I didn't like. He's a true legend of the gothic croon. 'There is a Kingdom' & 'Idiot Prayer' being my track picks 03/24 [First added to this chart: 08/23/2022]

83.50 I rate this in the same category as Metallica's 'Black album'. The album that bought the band to the attention of the masses. I was one within those masses. My introduction to them. Loved it and have since acquired many of their other albums. This still holds as my favorite by far. Early hardcore fans would of called them a 'sell out'. Just as with Metallica, I d disagree. It just gave them a whole new fan base. [First added to this chart: 11/03/2020]

79.16* This is the second album they put out. It has 'Sun Hits The Sky' on it, which is my favorite Supergrass song and probably the song that got me interested in them. They've really got quite a happy buoyant sound about them. Probably not as good as their debut but not too far off. 04/25 [First added to this chart: 02/28/2025]

79.09 This album is the equivalent to the plain looking girl at a party whom you don't even give a second glance to. But then, on actually having a decent look, you discover she's the most attractive woman there.
Nothing on here jumps out and smacks you in the face but every song on this is a gem.
Overall a fantastic album full of flowing melodies and rhythms.

78.84 Very under rated. It's one that is always forgotten about and long gaps between listening to. And in that time you seem to get a mind set that it's not all that good. Then you hear it again and realize it's a really good album. Best from Offspring [First added to this chart: 11/03/2020]

78.46 I've had this from when it first came out. Starts off great with the first few songs but then it all starts to sound all to similar. Due to this, even though it's a decent album, it's just failed to make an impact with me. Good but also rans in the Brit pop/rock category. [First added to this chart: 11/03/2020]

78.230* I was late in getting this due to all the criticism it received. It's not bad at all. In fact I think it's actually pretty good. It's not thrash hence why the early loyalists hated it. But it is an album full of great hard rock/classic metal tracks. There's nothing fucking wrong with this at all. Only gripe is that the songs are too long 09/25 [First added to this chart: 09/22/2022]

Great chart with interesting commentary. A few hear that I will definitely have to check out, as I was struggling to get more than about 30 albums on my list (I very rarely list compilations)
