I was born in 1956 and by my early teens it seemed that my entire world centred around the world of songwriters and the albums that were flowing across the Pacific & Indian oceans to the shores of Australia. The last 60's - late 70's were the time when every day was a new adventure of musical discovery ~ and so, my musical tastes & preferences were deeply shaped by that era. While my love of music has never faded, there were other priorities in life ~ work & family ~ that meant that I lost close contact with the new music that emerged from the 80's on ~ and while there are songwriters/albums that I have embraced from this latter period, it was impact that the albums of the 60's & 70's had on me that continues to resonate most deeply.
This retrospective of my 100 favourite US artists & what I regard as the best album by each of them reflects that quirk of timing.
Rather than rate each album/artist against each other, this chart is chronological ~ and thus represents my journey through time of the USA musical landscape.
