Quebec Love (French Canadian Music) by Robert Anton Wilson

Quebec music (French Canadian music).

VIVE LE QUEBEC LIBRE

This will eventually end up being only one album per band in chronological order from most recent to older with the exception of Félix and Gilles Vigneault keeping the first and second place they deserve.

Work in progres...

Thanks to the input from my nieces for the pulse of the contemporary scene.

Once a year on June 24 everyone recognizes Gilles Vigneault has the embodiment of Quebec pride. If we ever do get our country, one of his songs "Gens du pays" or "Les gens de mon pays" will undoubtedly become the national anthem. [First added to this chart: 11/09/2012]

Rock - After being part of the premier Quebec rock band, Pierre Harel set out to form the second Quebec rock band. Just as Offenbach was dominated by a charismatic singer and became known as Gerry`s band, Corbeau was fronted by a charismatic singer Marjo and became known as Marjo`s band. Sad how Harel is often forgotten when Quebec rock owes him such a debt. Corbeau’s music was released on CD only in the form of this 2 CD anthology, it is complete. Their main hits are: Ailleurs, Illégal, Having a strong female lead this to launch a few anthems for them lady rockers out there such as : Cash-moé, Marche. J’lâche pas. Marjo had a successful solo career after Corbeau. [First added to this chart: 11/02/2012]

Pop-rock-dance-acoustic-electric-everything: One of the foremost contemporary Quebec troubadour. Jean Leloup (sometimes also called Jean Leclerc) may suffer from ADD but we don’t because that leads to multi-media artist of grand inventiveness, proficient technicality and extremely generous of himself on stage. He has always been an artist of his time and cannot be pigeon-holed because he has surfed many different styles solo or with alternate outfits (Bran Van 3000, The Lost Assassins). His most successful album (i.e. poppiest and danceable) was L'amour est sans pitié (1997). [First added to this chart: 11/02/2012]

Rock - The premier Quebec rock bad boy. Launched with the ballad “N’importe quoi” Eric Lapointe offers up a very basic rock. This album is his high points with songs like “Ma gueule”, “Le miroir” et “Mon ange”. [First added to this chart: 11/02/2012]

Pop - Winner of the Festival international de la chanson de Granby Isabelle did not take long to reach the top of the Quebec top 40 hit parade. While her debut album was well received, this second album catapulted her straight to the top of the Quebec top 40 hit parade which she has revisited regularly ever since. She has taken a turn towards the pop-country since 2007, I can’t wait for her to come back doing what she does best. A very touching voice. [First added to this chart: 11/02/2012]

Pop - Came in like a storm and imposed himself on the top 40 hit parade of Quebec nearly overnight and rode that wave for quite a while. This is his debut album but his album “Quatre saisons dans le désordre” has sort of a mythical quality about it. [First added to this chart: 11/02/2012]

Singer-songwriter - rock when with Abbitibbi - Excellent either as a singer on acoustic guitaror at the piano Richard saw success elude him for years before he finally got his big break with the ballad “Tu m’aimes tu?” Following this success he has released many solo albums and got reacquainted with his former band mates of yore from the band Abbitibbi when he needs a more fulsome and rock-infused backdrop. Richard’s voice has finally become heard whether it be about melodies or political diatribes. The northern ecology issue is one of the foremost on his mind. [First added to this chart: 11/02/2012]

The Nirvana of Quebec with its short repertoire which became essential nearly right away and lead singer committing suicide. Songs like Rock-pop with a mic of punk and folk tendencies - “Dehors Novembre” or “Le répondeur” are of a soul chilling intensity while other like “Julie” or “La traversée” or just irresistible happy-feel good tap your feet songs. Acoustic rock - The Quebec Bob Dylan. An acoustic guitar and an ambiguous voice. Usually backed up only by a 2 man band (lead guitar and bass). So many songs. He would eventually start to loathe his own big hits and crowd pleasers (e.g. Bobépine) because he prefers to have an attentive audience that pays attention to his lyrics of which he his deeply proud and protective. A pillar, a must. [First added to this chart: 11/02/2012]

To the best of my knowledge, Beau Dommage never did any English song or album. I am deeply covinced they never would.

Beau Dommage are a band whose music has been played on the Radio Finland (YLE). Music journalist Jake Nyman, has presented the band in its programs. I liked to hear. Did BD, none of the English-language albums?

I love this chart! I figured Offenbach and Harmonium would be there, and I'm glad Celine Dion and Roch Voisine are not. There is so much great French-Canadian music to explore here - I'm intrigued by The Dale Hawerchuks on name alone.

Maybe you should include the Guy LaFleur disco album.

Vive le Quebec Libre? Charles de Gaulle go home! ;)
