Top of the Prog II: 1989 and Beyond ...
by
Robert Anton Wilson
Accompanying chart to Top Prog I: The Classic Era. This chart covers the period from 1989 until now. 1989 being selected because it is the date of the release of the first Marillion album without their original singer, Fish. Inclusion is based not on date of release of album but on date of birth of the band (except in the case of Marillion). Hence albums released since 1989 by classic era bands are included on the Top Prog I chart.
Because my emotional attachment prevents me from allowing vital contemporary bands and albums to properly shine when side by side with albums I have been living with since time immemorial.

Let's face it, Steven Wilson puts me to sleep. I prefer his side project I.E.M because he hardly sings on those albums. I know as a progger I should hide in shame for saying that but as you noticed from this list the contemporary prog I like is usually listed under stoner rock. I do admire Steven Wilson's creativity and workmanship behind the console though and do owe him huge for his reviving and remixing of the early King Crimson albums, he has truly given Lizard and Islands a second lease on life and made them relevant again - yes, get the 30th and 40th anniversary releases, they are amazing, particularly Lizard.

I don't give you 100 because you choose one of Porcupine Tree's worse albums in my opinion, and I miss some comments on key albums. But thanks for showing that prog is not dead - still lots of great records post 1989 - and for including my so much loved Phideaux album so high.

Cool chart. A lot of this stuff got me started on rock music. Tons I haven't heard of though.
