Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 72.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 21.7.

i love tupac, prolly my second favorite rapper after nas but this album always bothered me. it feels like the producers took the artistic merit out from under pacs feet with all these funky radio-ready beats and SO MUCH GOD DAMN FILLER, minus 15 songs woulda helped a lot. i guess this is what happens when you blow up and 90,000 producers wanna give u a beat and make a hit, its not a bad album, just overrated and not his best one. both killuminati and against are better. killuminati is far better, he left death row producers and made "his own" album and its a beautiful portrait of an angry, betrayed, poet plus the production is way better, more emotion.
I could have sworn I made some BS comment about how my arms gave out while carrying this back from the record store... huh.... maybe it was on the forum, w/e.
this is literally my heaviest record. who makes a quadruple LP? for $25 though, I basically stole it - which is pretty gangsta and totally appropriate. B/C 2PAC'S BLACK, GET IT? oh, I crack me up.
anyway, Ambitionz, Skandalouz, Got My Mind Made Up, How Do U Want It, 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted, No More Pain, Only God Can Judge Me, Life Goes On, Tradin' War Stories, California Love, I Ain't Mad At Cha, Can't C Me, Shorty Wanna Be a Thug, Wonda Why They Call U Bitch, Picture Me Rollin, All Eyez on Me, and Run Tha Streetz more than make up for the cost of this thing. there's something funky at the very least in pretty much all of these tracks though, the only downer is What'z Ya Phone #?, but given the small % of the album that takes up, it's easily forgiven.
if you don't have ADD, this is an epic, rewarding listen for anyone who can appreciate a good beat and an even better flow. this is "The Stand" of rap records. 2Pac proves he can give the Energizer bunny a run for its money. very g-funk era. Method Man, Snoop, and Dre make great appearances as well.
2Pac was an enigma. How could someone wax poetically about his family, women and his community and then spew aggressive, violent, misogynistic lyrics? If he had stayed true to one over the other, he would have been another DMX. By showing both sides, he shows a complexity. Disappointing that he was too stupid to leave his thug profile in the studio. However, you can't deny the depth of his lyrics and the strength of his flow. Dre helps too.
This album is overrated. I love 2pac but this album seems to be the one that defines his legacy. I also don't like the idea that him and Biggie both released double albums around this time just for competition sake. And Biggie's second disc blows this second disc out of the water thanks to Notorious Thugs, The Sky's The Limit, Going Back to Cali, etc. Both of them feel too long and bloated though. But 2pac's second half is pretty weak in my opinion.
The first half however does offer a few gems. Ambitionz as a Ridah is a classic. 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted, How Do You Want It, I Aint Mad At Ya are good songs. I don't like how they put the California Love Remix on here though. Put the original. No More Pain has got a sick beat. I'm a big fan of Trading War Stories and Life Goes On though. Their both really good depicting street life and some of the stuff they had to deal with growing up and they don't make rap now like 2pac did. So overall 2pac's first half of this album is very good and definitely worth a listen but if you are looking for the definitive 2pac album, check out Me Against the World.
A strange, bloated album, as any double-LP would be. Still, the prize tracks are among 2pac's best: "All About U," "How Do U Want It," "Wonder Why They Call You Bytch," "Ambitionz as a Rider" and the eponymous "All Eyez on Me" are all keepers. Wonder why they included that half-hearted remix instead of the original, far superior "California Love," though.
