Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.8/100, a mean average of 77.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

I'm a fan of Annie, I really am- but I don't see the appeal of this album. Any edge she had on her previous work feels dulled with the foregrounding of electronic sounds.

I don't care what any of y'all say... St. Vincent had the greatest album of 2017. From the gay ballad turned banger that is "Slow Disco" to fan favorite "New York" this album shines. The album isn't her most cohesive but every song is absolutely perfect. (At least is not of those albums so cohesive that every song sounds the exact same) I wouldn't change anything about it and it deserves recognition. The greatest guitarist alive and one of our best songwriters.

Hate her or love her, you can't deny she's doing something special with each new release.

Overall, not a great new direction for Annie. A couple compelling ballads and some interesting songwriting here and there, but beyond that I'm alternating between being bored or just not feeling the weird distorted synth sound that everyone is trying to use these days.

It's a shame because it almost seems like her skills as a songwriting thing have improved a bit, but there's just too much "Hey guys look at this new thing I'm doing" and too little quality songwriting for me to really get into this one.
