Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.3/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

The first thrash metal album! This is raw Metallica! This is the album that fueled most of the 80s metal. I realize that's a big statement but I stand behind it. My least favorite song on the album is Phantom Lord and even then it is a kickass track. Dave Mustaine's writing is immediately apparent on this album. It is far more raw and fast than anything else Metallica ever did.

I love this record because it was the starting point for Metallica's future success in discovering the Thrash Metal sub-genre. This album really has that head slam against the wall, kick you in the balls, f*ck you personality of the band. So much power, so much intensity in such a short amount of time.

This is definitely an album for the music listener. The instrumentation in the album is absolutely mind blowing. Every time Kirk Hammett unleashes a guitar solo, you will be left in awe and asking yourself "how?". James Hetfield's vocals are so raw and dirty which really suits the album. Lars is a beast on the kit, not because he does anything complex or challenging in this record, but it's his speed man. It's so fast. And Cliff, you gotta love Cliff. One of the best Metal bassists to ever walk on the planet, although you won't hear too much of his true potential in this album, he still kicks ass on the record.

This has to be my favorite Metallica record because of how fast and criminally insane it sounds. This was a great starting point for the band to then start evolving into longer, more epic metal pieces of work (aka Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets). A huge historical record that paved the way for new metal bands to start emerging in the 80's.

My favorite record. There is not one dull moment on this album, and every song is fantastic. It's fast, it's heavy, and it's catchy.

100/100; 5 Stars.

The musical equivalent of a kick in the nuts. Not as technically proficient as their later work, but fast, furious and in-your-face. Seek and Destroy is one of the greatest metal anthems of all time.

This album isn't for everyone. For die hard metal fans though you can't go wrong. I would say they had better albums that came after this but that doesn't mean this wasn't great. This is a classic as well. Seek & Destroy is the song that changed my life and introduced me to metal & music in general. (Edited)
