Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.8/100, a mean average of 76.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.6.

Poderosa marcação de bateria nesse debut forte de Heavy Metal.
This album blew my mind when I first hear it. Brann Dailor's drumming is beyond insane. Such a fun record to listan to.
How opinions change. I was originally extremely warm on the album before, but I actually think it's Mastodon's best now.
I highly suggest Ol'e Nessie as a song to make priority to listen to, its into is very epic.
Good debut from a great band. I enjoy their later work a lot better, this one is a little to heavy for me, but there are some awesome riffs on this album, and the drumming is amazing.
Great debut! Crusher destroyer + March of the fire ants <3
It is a great debut, instrumentally it is fantastic like all Mastodon's work but it does get too repetitive and like the comment below me, it just becomes a monotonous work of growls lyrically.
March of the Fire Ants and Workhorse are pretty good tracks, but for the most part this is too uninspired which leads to it mostly being a lengthy stretch of growls.
