Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 14% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 74.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.2.

It was clear from moment one that the labels dream pop and jangle pop didn't apply anymore; they went straight to soft pop/adult contemporary/folk rock. I feel like they were still trying to make their old stuff but just lost their edge so much that this became the result; I don't feel like they really went for this sound a 100%. I would've loved it if they just doubled down on cheesiness and mellowness.
Good easy listening, Wheeler's voice has definitely been refined by now and is a lot more sweeter to the ears. Production value has also come up.
I agree. This album isn't nearly as strong as their others, but I definitely remember Summertime being all over the radio that year.
Oh, I never recoginized it at all. When I heard 'Here's Where The Story Ends' I was immediately thrown back into my childhood. It was a surprise blast of nostalgia. Plus the rest of the songs were stroger. I prefer the album to this one.
an_outlaw, "Summertime" was totally a hit!!!
but yeah, "Reading Writing & Arithmetic" and "Blind" were better records
No superhit. Calm and pleasurable. Thinks back too tough times and holds in the tears. A thoroughly human album.
Beautiful and timeless. My favourite album.
