Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.1/100, a mean average of 70.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 21.4.

A pretty incredible pop debut. Madonna is not the most skilled vocalist, but she's got personality to spare and is well suited for these uniformly catchy and sweet dance pop gems.

In 1983, before Madonna became international Icon MADONNA, she released this self-titled debut. It features somewhat an anonymous, girlish sounding singer delivering dance club fare like "Lucky Star," "Borderline," and my personal fave "Holiday". Nothing really to distinguish this singer from others or what she was to become.

I’m not a huge pop fan but this album is awesome definitely one of the best of the 80s and my favorite Madonna album by far.

I know, a 10/10 sounds like too much. The album is certainly flawed, GOD is it flawed. But that is mostly because of the fact that her approach of making music was completely unknown at the time. She makes the song and has a vision and then makes sure she finds a producer that understands her. And if the product isn’t good enough, she doesn’t settle for less and continues her search for the perfect sound. Basically, the same tactic that she advices in her lyrics that should be used in relationships.
It doesn’t sound like a big deal now, because almost all female artists after her, followed this formula, and it was also the most logical outcome for women, because culture has been (and somewhat still is) presenting music production (as well as playing certain instruments) as a male thing.
This approach also created a blueprint for electropop in general. The way that the producer’s creative input is of almost equal importance can be found back in artists like Drake and Future today. Suddenly there wasn’t just one song, there were remixes too; the vocals could be thrown around and reinterpretated endlessly. Again, today it’s hard to realize what the big deal is, because that’s the norm now, but that’s because of Madonna.

And of course she gave a voice to feminine sexuality in music.

When I was first introduced to this album it was getting no air play and I only gave it a spin because Madonna grew up close to where I did. It is amazing that this is the debut album that kicked off one of the greatest pop careers ever. One of the few pop albums I can listen to today all the way through
