Their brash pop-punk of "Good Health" and "The New Romance" received a facelift on "Elan Vital". That brashness still lies at the base of "Vital", but they sound more melodious now, and not just because they added a female backing vocalist. But that's part of it. The additional female vox layers well on "Parade" and throughout the album. "Vital" also seems tighter, more focused on its message. That message, as it is in "Parade", is a rebellion of the status quo. Just not as obvious as before.
