Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.4/100, a mean average of 66.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 66.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 22.5.

This album was a fantastic breakthrough album for Chisel in Australia.
It managed to walk the line perfectly between commercially accessible and fine rock.
Although Don Walker was the main songwriter, all the members wrote songs, and great ones ... In fact every member of the band has written a hit.
If anyone claims to like rock music, then really they need Cold Chisel in their collection. East is a good place to start

you could walk into a pub and see them play in the early 80s. Great band

Critically it is the general consensus that 'Circus Animals' is Cold Chisels best album but B.E.A users have it right , hands down 'East' stands as their pinnacle release

For on this album song writing duties would be shared by the group for the very first time with Phil Small delivering the delightful "My Baby" , Ian Moss "Never Before" , Jimmy Barnes "Rising Sun" + "My Turn To Cry" and Steve Prestwich "Best Kept Lies" with all other tracks courtesy of Don Walker

Interestingly "Choir Girl" would break the group on a top 40 level but few were aware of its dark message which was around pregnancy and terminations and that the Japanese head band Barnes is sporting on the cover is in actual fact on upside down !

'East' also represents the band at their peak around 1980/1981 in terms of live shows and performances , anyone seeing Chisel live at this time can attest to this

Not only is 'East' Cold Chisels best album it stands as one the greatest Australian albums of all time

Absolutely timeless

Simply one of the greatest blues/rock albums ever recoreded. Every track is a killer. Should have slayed them in the states but were poorly managed on their only tour (supporting the likes of Heart and Loverboy which consideri g the demo of those bands was ridiculous) and then disappeared without a trace. Given a fighting chance East would have sold ten million copies.

One of the great discoveries, for me, of exploring this site has been finding acts and albums that are completely unknown to me here in the UK - Cold Chisel are a fantastic example - Wow! An album stuffed full of great songs. I can imagine what a great live act they were. A revelation!
