Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.5/100, a mean average of 73.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Do you really think that Mark Kozelek was going to stop stuffing us with music? Well, you're wrong. Because Mark Kozelek will multiply the numbers of albums to piss off... um sorry, give music to his fan base until saturation. So here is the first album of 2017 as Sun Kil Moon which is a double-album named "Common As Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood" because twice as much is better. It does not matter if it's too much because a lot more is better. As always, Mark recounts his daily life, which is always so exciting and rich in terms of going from one subject to another, always with the fact that Pitchfork has changed the note of his previous album or the terrible presidential election. Musically, Sun Kil Moon tries thousands of things that he likes, no matter if it goes in all directions. Because yes, entering the crazy brain of Mark Kozelek requires courage. But when you go in, it's absolutely magical. "Common As Light And Love Are Valleys Of Blood" is a record that works like a hearty meal with 16 tracks for almost 2 hours of music. Mark Kozelek is an absolute genius and this album completes his gargantuan discography. I may not be very objective with Mark's albums and I know this album contains some flaws but this still amazing.
8/10
Best track: "God Bless Ohio"
I've never listened to another record that felt so lived in. There are cinematic-sounding records, and even those with vivid storytelling, but few that are so thoroughly transportive. Kozelek does it again!!!
I enjoy it when I listen to three or four of these ten minute long songs, but I can't imagine ever listening to the whole thing from start to finish. Still, some good Sun Kil Moon.
Not feeling this one. Mark is loosing me and the spoken word just gets to be too much on this record for me personally
The outro to "Bergen to Trondheim" is my favorite moment on this album.
Favorite tracks: God Bless Ohio, Philadelphia Cop, Bergen To Trondheim, Bastille Day

10/10 After a disappointing start to the year, this comes to hit me for my favorite of the year so far
Mark sounds great with this release discussing many topics. I feel like I could put this on (if I had the time) and enjoy what he has to say, but this definitely is no Benji. It's not as personal as that record and doesn't have that depressing and emotional vibe. Regardless, a great release which I may come to love as time goes by

Man this is a weird album. It lulls you with repetition and then all of the sudden it's something else. I don't recommend this album--it's for me only.
Not as good as Benji but it comes close. Kozelek back at it again with the biographies.
