M. Ward would be a good act to see in a big, rowdy bar. Songs like "never had nobody like you" and "rave on" would have the crowd smiling and singing along between slugs of beer. "jailbird" also shows off his playful side. The rest of the album shows that he's mastered his form of americana as I haven't heard a clunker album from him yet. His performance doesn't translate to the stadium setting, but I don't feel he was meant for or would want to play in madison square garden. Religion and God weigh on his lyrics from "fisher of men" to "epistimology", beit positive or negative religious experiences, making for his most deep and personal album yet.
