Forty years into his recording career, Rodney Crowell releases a stellar record that shows he's got a lot of power and spirit within him. The spirit of his new set of songs is raw and blunt and honest, with current experiences like trying to get an old sick friend back on track and youthful experiences like trying to impress Willie Nelson with a song you wrote, only to get drunk and vomit in the backyard in embarassment.
Crowell pays special tribute to the late Guy and Susanna Clark on "It Ain't Over Yet," with Roseanne Cash and John Paul White singing the parts meant to represent his two comrades who have passed on in the last few years. Highly Recommended.
