Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 72.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.5.

One of those well known yet underrated albums that drips with sarcasm and social commentary from top to bottom with only one track that stinks (“Darla”). And love the three covers here (“Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps” / “I Will Survive’ / “Sad Songs and Waltzes” ) (Edited)

I think I've underrated this album. The lyrics are the only thing that might drop my rating and sometimes the vocals. The music itself is pretty solid, but suffers the same problem I have with Wilco... it's all over the place (which is nice for variety), but I like Beck a little more for this varied sound.

This is a great album. Not sure why there is a reluctance to enjoy it.

The Distance and Open Book are my favorite. Seems like lyrics are their strong point.

This album has not aged well. Ironic lyrics and dead-pan delivery are so 90s... and every song sounds the same.

Although it slightly lacks diversity, Cake's "Fashion Nugget" is smooth, rockin, and comedic. Just about every track is great. Plus, you'll love the lyrics. Lyrically, this is one of my favorite albums (except for the language.)

My first car, which I got in 1997, had only a cassette player. I had skipped collecting cassettes, as CDs were readily available when I started collecting music, so I picked up two cassettes: this one and Soundgarden's "Superunknown". For (mostly) better and worse, this was the soundtrack to those first months of freedom. Haven't given it a spin in 15 years, but I'll always remember it fondly.

I shouldn't like that album and that band but I can't help myself. "The Distance" is great. the texts hilarious, the melodies catchy. And that version of "I Will Survive" on which the singer sounds half dead or full-gone on Prozac. Too lol.
