Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. An odd collection of tunes. Hard to listen to straight through on vinyl. CD works well for this one with the skip button.
Obviously a money grab for the record company. Two strong tracks but most of the other tracks, filler.

Kinda like Flowers by The Rolling Stones. Some original material, some from other albums. A bit of a mish-mash, but there's strong tracks here.
A couple hidden early gems off this one in 'Magic bus' and 'Pictures of Lily'
