Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. This one was a surprise. Winger's first two albums hurt them (though commercially successful) because they weren't hard driving at all. Their third one was killer and the last two have been as well. This isn't just an average CD but a really good one.
