I'm a huge fan of The Doors so when I saw this tribute to the band by new age piano legend George Winston I had to pick it up. Winston gives a virtuoso rendering of a baker's dozen of hits by The Doors, infusing the dark and moody textures that the 60's icons brought to their repertoire, and playing the incomparable Ray Manzarek's keyboard style with aplomb. Manzarek, as you know, originally lay down the group's bass lines on the keyboard with his left hand while using his right hand to carry the melody. Winston delivers the group's textures and also puts his own personal spin on things in his solos. New Age never sounded so good.
