For better and worse, gloriously indulgent, but like all of her best work, Madonna embraces contemporary trends and blows them up to the most lavish heights. You can also tell that she's trying to recapture the magic of "Vogue," and all you want is for "Vogue" to be on this record, but it's already on I'm Breathless. Still, this is a fun, if exhausting time.

It's exactly the sort of criticism I might level at an album that the tracks are too long, and that there are too many of them. However... Erotica is much more than the sum of its parts. From the opulent opener, through the cool ballads and hot dance grooves, right up to the smooth d&b finish, this album delivers top tunes and, as advertised, erotic moods. Time and time again it revels in a sleazy funk - something Madonna has always excelled at, but is particularly good at here. A consistently underrated album (even within Madonna's catalogue), but one which has you coming back for more after each listen. Excellent.

More brutally honest than ever, Madonna came back with an album about sex in all its forms. Luckily, the perfect music genre for this album had just sparked up: Trip Hop. It’s dark and sexy. The lighter songs get a more jazzy or the good old Madonna pop-y feel to it. The result is a very strange mix of genres, which makes you sometimes wonder what exactly you are listening to. Sometimes a bit too sketchy, but the more interesting.

It is clear that Madonna has opened the way for artists to incorporate the subject of sex in their music, which had been largely ignored up to that point.

the typical 90s house/new jack swing production may ring slightly hollow, but madonna's "erotica" is a brave turn into new and (unfortunately) controversial thematic territory. it's great when mainstream stars take artistic risks because they have huge platforms, and madonna was talking about the things no-one else wanted to with lengthy compositions. a sex-positive, queer-positive, undeniably feminist record that has aged well.

Truly Madonna's most underrated album. The themes are consistent and it's a very moody, truthful album. She wasn't afraid of backlash and didn't care about sales, she just wanted to say what was on her mind. But, sadly the album does get a little bit lost in itself. The songs run a little long, it doesn't have many good rhythms to dance to, and Madonna's beats are sometimes louder than her actual vocals.

One of the best Madonna albums out there, full of different styles of dance & pop music it is a tad overlong the track Did You Do It as far as I can tell doesn't feature Madonna at all. The remainder of the album however more than makes up for it. Erotica, Deeper & Deeper, Where Life Begins, Rain, In This Life & Bad Girl being the standout tracks.

Madonna's first versatile album - melodious mix of Dance, R&B, New Jack Swing, Jazz, Lounge, House and Pop of course. 'Erotica' is my 2nd favorite album by Madonna. 'Bad Girl' is definitely the greatest track. I love 'Rain', 'Deeper and Deeper', 'Waiting', 'Words', 'Thief of Hearts' so much!
