Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.2/100, a mean average of 69.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.6.

This cracking album confirms it once and for all that The Killers are back baby backing up 2017’s wonderful ‘Wonder Wonderful’ (pun intended) with a release just as good and maybe better

The Killers may have just saved 2020, bless you Brandon

So so so so good. This is just an incredibly consistent and energetic record. I was doubful because the singles didn't really make and impression outside of Caution, but they sound so much better in the context of the album. The album has a really nice flow, a strong overall theme and tone, which something that was lacking from the last couple of releases. Both Day & Age and Battle Born had stronger singles, but as an album this is probably their third best, right after the first two classics.

With their latest album, Las Vegas-based rock band The Killers still prove they have juice enough to keep going, even as a three-pieced. Imploding The Mirage proves to be a natural progression from their very uneven Wonderful Wonderful, combining majestic arena rock with more new wave-based synth-rock. The resulting album lands somewhere between their 2008 album Day & Age and the follow-up Battle Born, with production values closer to Wonderful Wonderful.

Imploding The Mirage is a fantastic showcase of Brandon Flower's unique vocals, hooky melodies and lyrics based in modern-day society, politics and religion. The melodies combine vulnerability with those characteristically bombastic Killers choruses. My Own Soul's Warning is a great opener, while Caution proves to be their most successful and satisfying single since Human. That being said, there are plenty of songs that just seem to exist for the danceability and not their lyrical content, such as the rather repetitive Dying Breed or Lighting Fields and My God, both of which feature guest artist and just seem to exist to please a wider audience. And then we have FIre In Bone, which despite its fine guitars and drums just sounds so wrong. Despite the undying energy of most tracks, there are also vulnerability and personal touch on many tracks, making this another personal album for Flowers.

I'm extremely confused. I didn't expect this album to be this good, especially when some of the singles didn't really click with me the first time I heard them. This is the band's best output since Sam's Town indeed, and it probably reaches Hot Fuss' levels of good. The Killers is a band I've enjoyed since I started listening to rock, but honestly their albums have never been thoroughly consistent from start to finish (minus the first one or two).

Three years ago with "Wonderful, Wonderful" I thought they were on the right track with some great singles such as "The Man" or "Run for Cover". Now with "Imploding the Mirage" it's just hit after hit after hit. Almost every song in this record is interesting, innovative and packed with a lot of energy and experimentation for the band. I never thought there would be a time when I prefered a Killers album over Tame Impala.

Favorite songs: Every single one of them! Gotta listen to this a couple of times to really start picking favorites.
