Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.2/100, a mean average of 78.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.4.

Bought this when it first came out and have always had conflicted views on it. There's some great song writing and song structures throughout. But his voice does nothing for me at all. In fact, I find him to be one of the most unmelodious vocalists on any album I've ever heard. And I find on some tracks it's very mismatched with the pitch and tone of the guitars. Great songs. Just they'd probably be better if done by a different band.
Fantastic album. Loved and still do, love it. A few seconds and it feels like it's always been existing.
Great album. Keeblin' isn't listed here. It's the last track of the album and it's fucking amazing.
One of the most underated album ever. THis is the best guitar album of the 90's by a margin.
Almost a J Mascis solo, but a stunning bunch of well producted songs, Get me in an anthem.
As they start to get the post-Nirvana attention that many of their peers received (Meat Puppets, Sonic Youth, etc...), they produce an album on par with their 80s work.
If I could only choose one Dinosaur Jr album for the rest of my life, it'd probably be Where you Been. One of the best hard rock albums of all time IMNSHO. It's more richly produced than his other albums & is embellished with strings & instruments Phil Spector-style, but I think that only gives it a timeless feel.
So, it's not Green Mind but it's pretty damn close!
