Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.7/100, a mean average of 75.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.1.

Fun listen and impressive guitars. Some songs seem to have more thought put into them than others. Subject matter tends to harp on first world problems but its still somewhat compelling at times.

Another great album from Haim; for me their second best. Some country/folk influences on here which are genres I have a tougher time really enjoying, but the Haim sisters clearly know what they're doing here. Maybe them and Waxahatchee will convert me.

Favorite Songs: FUBT, I've Been Down, I Know Alone

It’s a golden era for women in music

2018 saw incredible albums from Mitski and Boygenius feat Phoebe Bridgers

2019 was even better with Lana Del Rey , Uboa , Big Theif and Sharon Van Etten smashing it out of the park

And in 2020 we’ve already had Fiona Apple , Waxahatche, Phoebe Bridgers and Beach Bunny soar high and you can now add sisters Alana , Este and Danielle HAIM with ‘WIM 3’ to the honour roll

After the somewhat disappointing ‘Something to Tell You’ in 2017 the girls have righted the ship with a superb collection of wonderful harmony’s spiced with mature lyrics showing another side we haven’t seen before. Highlights include “Up From a Dream”, lead single “The Steps” ( a real grower), the largely acoustic “Man From The Magazine” and my personal favourite track “Hallelujah” strangely listed as a Bonus Track (??) and is a love letter to the 3 sisters and the lyric “3 Roads One Life”

Clearly and completely one of 2020’s very best album releases

On their latest album, HAIM takes a step back into the indie pop-rock territory they originally traversed with their 2012 debut album. The trio's third studio album is filled with sunshine, hooks and confidence, while further challenging the indie-pop sound of today. Steps might very well be the best song they have produced so far, while Gasoline is a great summertime mood-lifter. Leaning on You is a wonderfully chill, guitar-driven song, drawing influences from folk.-rock. Meanwhile, 3am might be the worst song they've produced so far, as it's just so far from the sound what we've come to know HAIM for.

That's not to sat this album is all good. While there is a wider variety to the band's sound when compared to the previous two albums, and some proper extermination in sound, many songs lean a bit too much into modern pop, leaving the rocking guitars on the shelf. These songs represent the weakest aspects of the album (take I Know Alone or 3am for instance). The influences from r&b and hip-hop are pretty strong on this album, which for me comes in the way of the well-crafted indie elements.

I'm happy that HAIM decided to largely keep the indie influences strong and put the focus on guitar hooks and infectious melodies, while boldly experimenting with their sound. It shows that they know where they excel at while daring to try new things as well.

Just didn't move me. They sound more and more like Sheryl Crow with each album that goes by.
