Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.6/100, a mean average of 77.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.1.

It's just a plague, not an album. How the hell can you come up with such a thing... The vocals are generally a bomb and the pitch and timbre... I like him more than any of the others. It really evokes emotions..

Cracking start with the first 3 songs but then the rest fails to keep up due to their droning style of Prog Metal. The last track could have done without the 10 minutes of crickets before the end message. With experimental shit like that, you can't help but think they're a bunch of pretentious wankers. Which is a shame as they've got some great music.

Good debut, but did we really need the 15 minute closer?

Bottom, Sober and Prison Sex are all awesome.

One of the best metal debut albums ever. The whole album is so ferocious and anger-fueled

Underrated. If this was the sound that Tool stuck with everyone would love it. It doesn't have the scope of later Tool albums, but it rocks hard while giving the listener a shot of intelligent lyrics every once in a while.

A great debut album. "Intolerance" and "Sober" are among my favourite Tool songs. But in the grand scheme of things, this album was just the beginning for Tool.
