Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 77.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

Probably her most acoustic album, and my favourite too. While the electronics on later albums allowed her to experiment with different styles of songwriting, I feel that her natural songwriting style is one that should be accompanied by a more baroque pop sound. And that’s why this album sounds a lot more effortless and therefore better.
Beautiful and spare throughout and contains insightful & excellent songwriting that provides a discerning counterpoint to the whimsical production. In my opinion this is one of her best, if not *the* best, St. Vincent album and a shocking debut; I honestly didn't expect it to be this great but it definitely is. What a lovely surprise.
This is probably St. Vincent's most accessible album and in the same vain one of her most beautiful albums. Her debut album, sees St. Vincent at her jazziest and probably her best when it comes to songwriting. There are a couple of songs that feature that "St. Vincent sound" like: Your Lips Are Red and The Apocalypse Song; but it is songs like Marry Me and Landmines that make this album so beautiful. This is St. Vincent stripped down, and she will build upon these sounds in later albums but alone it is easily one of her most beautiful and polished.
Interesting and underrated album from St. Vincent. “Now, now” is one of her strongest songs, plain gorgeous.
Human Racing underrated af
St. Vincent's debut album. It's still, after four albums, her best album in terms of songwriting. Some lovely songs and performances. Very good.
Gorgeous album. I try to imagine hearing this in '07 when it was first released...I would have been obsessed with her after the opening track. I'm killing myself for not listening to her sooner. I'd argue that she's already reaching her potential here, and has simply stayed at the top of her game ever since.
Criminally underrated. This album not only has more lyrical wit then her later efforts, but there is also this beautiful theme of having these pop tracks chaotically fall apart. Later albums have an element of chaos but it is more hand-picked instrumentation that is either hit or miss, rather than this effortless feeling of having the track just collapse by its own weight. I think if people weren't slaves to publications and others opinions they would realize how strong this debut truly was.
Same thought as OFarrio. Not at her full potential yet, but still amazing.
Even if it doesn't quite measure up to her subsequent albums, it's a very strong debut with lots of interesting instrumentation and well-crafted songwriting.
