Underappreciated because of his often horrible personality. MBDTF is definitely my pick for the best album in the history of the genre, and the College Dropout might be my choice for second best. He is to hip hop what David Bowie was to rock, due to his experimentalism and innovation.

As a rapper, he's decent. As a producer and musician? He's a complete genius, and he uses his power for good. I don't care how much of an arrogant jerk he is. That's immaterial, as far as I'm concerned. Kanye puts out one excellent after the other. Even his worst album is still seen as pretty influential. How many of even the best artists can say the same? Can't wait for more of his solo stuff.

Is he the Miles Davis of our generation? Constantly forward thinking and innovative, blissfully controversial, everyone copies him and he is yet to make a true stinker. His music goes beyond the term: 'hip-hop', and delves just into superbly crafted music for the modern era, endlessly entertaining and rewarding, the master of 'introspective rap' (although Kendrick's creeping up in that vein) and a true visionary - without a doubt amongst the finest artists this century has offered thus far, if not of all time. And, how could i forget, the last true rockstar - which of course has lead to a lot of controversy and hate in the post-internet age. But while I may not always agree I admire his honesty and individuality and sheer bravery in speaking out, and his persona makes for riveting discussion. Love him to bits. Used to hate him and think he was a jerk who could make an OK sounding rap song, then I delved a little deeper and found a true artist pushing art that little bit further in his own way. So yeah lots of Kanye love here, maybe because I get so sick of all the close-minded comments you see trailing his media wake - you're only limiting your enjoyment at the end of the day. Love him or hate him, no one else can make a Kanye West album, which brings me back to my opening statement: is he this generation's Miles Davis? I think possibly he is just Kanye West - which is something to be admired. Thanks!

Guy's a douchebag, but makes some fantastic music. You can't argue with that. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever made along with College Dropout. He has yet to make a mediocre album.

If you were to have someone (who hasn't really listened to Kanye before) listen to Kanye West's discography on shuffle, think about how utterly confused that person would be. Every album he has gone to a whole new creative direction, changing hip-hop every few years or so. All Falls Down and New Slaves are both great songs for example. Yet they are so different and its hard to believe they come from the same artist. Kanye is the ultimate test of prejudice as well. Think about it. He can be an asshole at times, has some very controversial opinions on things, and he is also married to Kim Kardashian. This guy is just asking to be hated on. However, if you cannot appreciate the art that this guy has put out then you shouldn't even be on this website. Before you judge him based on everything going on around him, just listen to his music first. I recommend starting off with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy first, has elements of all his past and future work.
