Released in 1992 on the Canadian Pro-Arte Digital Label (Cat # CDD 3406) one of the founders of the contemporary Latin "Sound" , Xavier Cugat, sets out eighteen of his biggest hits here. A mix of vocal performances and instrumental numbers, ranging in style from Rhumbas to Tangos, Boleros to Congos and Sambas, there is a varied mix for everyone. Cugat was nothing if not eclectic. The performances were recorded from 1933 to 1941 - the earliest being "Gypsy Airs" and "My Shawl (Ombo) Theme Song" from 15 August, 1933.
