The call and response vocals are interesting. The repetition and long track lengths are meant to induce relaxation and a sort of trance of enlightenment, apparently. They do get into a nice groove at times: best was "Ali Maula". The underlying melody isn't always compelling, and the long track lengths can be challenging, consequently this album didn't hold my interest throughout. I liked the percussion, handclaps, and guitars (acoustic guitars and mandolin, I'd guess).
The album kind of won me over in the second half. The music is quite well played and put together. And it's certainly something different. Featured in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear".

A deeply spiritual and enchanting set of qawwali compositions from Pakistan's finest vocalist, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. One of the greatest albums of the 90s.
Absolutely beautiful album from Pakistani artist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. His vocals are expressive and powerful, the production is spiritual and intense. A brilliant introduction to Qawwali music & the first two tracks are some of the best compositions that I've ever had the joy to listen to.
