“IX” is held up by its arrangements. The heavy drums will build and combine with gothic guitars and higher synths. The climbing synth drum interplay on “Years of Suspicion” is a highlight of this. Unfortunately, this is let down by the vocals and lyrics. Each song is sung in the same vocal cadence. It robs the tracks of unique feeling and becomes monotonous. The lyrical crutch of “Feel the” shows up more often than it should. With more variety and detail, “IX” could thrive, but as it is, it might have been better off as an instrumental project.
