A great rock album, hindered by the "christian" label, yet heralded by the christian rock community as one of it's greatest milestones (it is).

Incredibly intelligent and well written. It's not particularly religious, or any more than U2 or Thrice. This album will unfortunately go unappreciated outside of the CCM community. The lyrics, songwriting, and vocals of Tim Skipper are certainly a highlight. Lyrically many references to war time (world war II specifically) as well as personal identity, romance, and adventure.

It's 70's rock meets 80's punk and a hint of 2000's emo (mostly in the vocals) but very bright pop in the vocal melodies and harmonies. It sticks very close to the pop-punk / alternative rock blueprint instrumentally, so don't expect a whole lot of variation stylistically. That said it's clear what the intent of the music was and they executed it well. You can at least expect some interesting little key changes and modulations here and there and it's all done to allow the vocals to navigate the territories.

I think this is certainly underrated by the mainstream music community, and since it's not exactly groundbreaking I don't expect it to be ever be discovered by a substantial number of folks given it's "Christian" stigma. That said it's a great record with some well written songs.
